Lancashire’s universities join forces to help local business community

Three Lancashire universities have helped more than 80 businesses across the county through a joint innovation project.

The University of Central Lancashire, Lancaster University and Edge Hill University came together through the Lancashire Universities’ Innovation Programme (LUIP) to provide businesses with a range of practical support, including product testing and prototype development.

Staff and students from all three institutions worked with a range of Lancashire companies to generate new ideas, create solutions, and develop more evidence-based marketing collateral, to support business growth.

The participating businesses – which were based across Preston, Burnley, South Ribble and West Lancashire – also enjoyed access the universities’ state-of-the-art laboratories and research facilities.

One company which benefited from the LUIP scheme was 6D Tape, an innovative healthcare business based in Burnley whose multi-directional medical tape can support lymphatic and physical therapy, as well as scar treatment.

Tapani Taskinen, CEO of 6D said: “The support from the LUIP aligned well with my company’s business goals by providing valuable research validation, industry insights, and strategic guidance to enhance our product’s credibility and market positioning.”

The 15-month LUIP initiative was financed through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund allocations received by Burnley Borough Council, Preston City Council, South Ribble Borough Council and West Lancashire Borough Council.
